Gallagher Bassett Supports Give Kids the World
Aug 27, 2018

On August 18th, in Orlando, FL more than 85 GB employees joined by industry colleagues from RPS (Orlando), GGB (Boca Raton), Coventry (vendor), Valencia College (client), Charter Schools of America (client), GL Homes (client) and PRM (client) participated in the annual GKTW Service event and Gala benefiting Give Kids the World (GKTW) as part of the WCI conference.  Give Kids The World Village is an 84-acre, nonprofit resort in Central Florida that provides weeklong, cost-free vacations to children with critical illnesses and their families.  The Village and its community partners provide children and their families accommodations in fully-furnished villas, transportation, tickets to theme parks, meals, daily entertainment and much more.

This is the ninth year of the partnership between the Workers Compensation Institute and GKTW and GB’s fifth year participating. This year the event drew in 1,100 volunteers, representing 187 companies totaling 4,000 manpower hours.  Our event volunteers performed the equivalent of 3 years of labor in one morning.  GB served on Villa Beautification teams (painting, cleaning the villas where families reside) as well as working in the restaurant serving food to the families.  As a team, GB contributed 425 service hours towards Gallagher’s 90K service hour goal.

This year also marked the inaugural year of planting a tree in commemoration of the WCI Day of Service. The intention is to leave a lasting and beautiful gift to the Village.  This year, the tree planting was attended by Gallagher Bassett’s Vilma Palma Blackmon and Jay Kimbrough.  They were joined by WCI President, Jim McConnahhay and Director of Programming Steve Rissman,as well as other industry sponsors.  We were honored to have Pam Landwirth representing GKTW at the ceremony.

In early April of this year, Henri Landwrith, founder of Give Kids the World passed away.  As a tribute to Henri’s legacy, GB provided volunteers and Gala attendees with a bracelet in Henri’s honor.

Following the volunteering event, a group gathered in the evening at the Orlando World Marriot to attend a Gala, which also included dinner and a silent auction.  The Gala was attended by 832 people    and raised over $110,000.
