In September and October, Gallagher Bassett joined insurance professionals across the globe in Dive In 2018. Dive In is the insurance sector’s only international diversity and inclusion festival that runs concurrently in multiple organizations in different countries, representing every corner of the industry. Now in its fourth year, Inclusion@Lloyds conceived Dive In as part of a strategic plan to drive engagement and understanding of the business case for diversity and inclusion. With raising awareness as the basis for the past 3 years, the 2018 theme is #Time4Inclusion. Gallagher Bassett is proud to have sponsored and coordinated events in Miami and Atlanta.
On September 25, the sophomore year of Dive In Miami took place at the Conrad Hotel. Having been challenged to infuse the arts within the events, the Miami team, led by Kristy Sands, VP Marketing & Communications, challenged event attendees to “visualize inclusion” by bringing in a graphic recorder to document the speakers and panellists, experiences and advice for advancing diversity into their organizations. Panellist and Gallagher Bassett client Rosa Royo, Miami-Dade County Public Schools shared stories of how she overcame social differences as a member of the LGBTQ community in the early years of her career. Each attendee was asked to commit to one action they will take in the coming year to promote diversity and inclusion in their own organization. The result – a visually stunning pledge to take action. The most popular topic was that of mentorship and sponsorship within the organizations to promote career trajectory for diverse individuals.
In its inaugural year, Dive In Atlanta addressed opportunities for young professionals. The Atlanta team was led by Vilma Palma-Blackmon, SVP Claims Operations, SE Zone and Megan Reed, Content Marketing Strategist. Vilma Palma-Blackmon was excited to kick off the event, saying, "Dive In represents a commitment to a brighter future; everyone I’ve worked with is as passionate as I am about making a difference as we pave the way and create opportunities for future diverse leaders.."
On October 3, A panel of diverse C-Suite executives, including Gallagher Bassett client Paulette Harris-Rogers, HD Supply, discussed strategy used to ascend to their current positions. There was emphasis on networking techniques, leaning in to decision-making tables, and leading with authenticity and credibility. On day two of the Atlanta events, the activities were aimed at those just getting started in the industry, and our panel shared what helped them to succeed early in their career, along with a special networking opportunity at the conclusion of the day.
