Gallagher Bassett Specialty, a division of Gallagher Bassett Services, Inc. (GB), is pleased to announce that Doug Betkowski has joined the company as Senior Vice President – Transportation Practice Leader of the Major Case Unit.
Doug comes to GB after spending more than thirty-five years in the insurance claims industry. Doug has handled, supervised, and resolved claims in various classes of business throughout the country.
Most recently, Doug served as the Corporate Director of Claims & Litigation at Swift Transportation – which, as part of Knight-Swift Group, is the largest truckload carrier in the industry. In that role, Doug was responsible for the oversight, processing and handling of all bodily injury and physical damage claims from intake to subrogation/recovery. He orchestrated case management, litigation philosophy and litigation support for all claims and related legal matters including selection, retention, and management of legal counsel. Doug has worked closely with corporate account leaders at customers and shippers of all shapes and sizes including some of the largest retailers in the world.
His drive to achieve superior claim resolutions while supporting company drivers and protecting company assets aligns well with GB’s commitment to help clients best protect their people, their businesses, and their brands.
In his new role at GB, Doug’s mission will be to strengthen and grow the effectiveness of the Major Case Unit by refining best practices and attracting and recruiting the best and the brightest in transportation claims to join its team.
Doug is a member of the Transportation Industry Defense Association (TIDA) Board of Directors and has served or currently serves on the Judicial Fairness Committee, Advanced Seminar Committee, Cargo & Skills Seminar(s) and the Membership Committee. He also serves on the ALFA Client Advisory Board and is a frequent speaker and panelist at various industry conferences. Doug attended Hofstra University and holds multiple designations from the Insurance Institutes of America and the American Educational Institute.
